Every week we feature a sustainable brand on our blog. This week's featured brand is Matt & Nat.

It was only recently that I learnt the brand Matt & Nat is not named after the imaginary founders Matthew and Natalie that I'd always assumed but rather for 'material' and 'nature'. With the mission of exploring the synergy between material and nature, 'the reflection of one on the other', the brand launched twenty years ago in Montreal committed to social responsibility, integrity, inclusiveness and love.

From the very beginning, the brand has pledged not to use leather or other animal based materials in their designs (vegans rejoice). This had led to experimentation with different sustainably sourced materials like cork and rubber. Their linings are made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and they've recently introduced recycled bicycle tires to their collection.

To purchase, I would recommend using online retailers like ASOSNordstrom or other stockists rather than purchase directly from the brand online. Unfortunately, based on the reviews from Yelp, they seem to have issues with poor customer service, delayed shipping etc. However, despite these issues, customers love the products so don't let that dissuade you from checking out this great sustainable brand.
