The Only Thing You Need to Make your Living Room Pop

I'm a firm believer that your home should be a reflection of your personality and I tried to do just that with my décor in my Minneapolis apartment. Neutral décor with 'pops of color' seems to be the current (and safe) trend, but the last thing I want is to end up with a cookie cutter home because quite frankly, that is not who I am. While almost everything else in my apartment came from the home I used to own in Las Vegas, I needed a new couch to fit the much smaller scale of my current living room.
 
I had been in love with the idea of a Chesterfield sofa for as long as I can remember. There's something about the tufting, curved arms and storied British heritage that has always appealed to me and I figured it was now or never. The only catch was that I wanted it to be in a bold color like red which turned out to be much like the mythical unicorn. I was able to find a Chesterfield that was the right size and depth at Restoration Hardware, but unfortunately it was the the drab neutral tones that are the signature for this brand. However, because I was determined to finally have a Chesterfield, I was willing to make the sacrifice and join the ranks of bland colored sofa owners and tried to console myself with the thought that I could jazz it up with some brightly colored cushions.
 
From the moment I placed the order at Restoration Hardware I felt like a sellout but rationalized that I was getting the sofa of my dreams even though it was going to cost me more than I had planned to spend (interesting how you can rationalize anything). It wasn't until a few weeks later when I walked into Crate & Barrel to kill some time before a dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant that I came to my senses. Right in the middle of the showroom was a turquoise sofa that was calling my name. The color was everything that I had dreamed off, a bold yet soothing color that evoked the bluest ocean. The sofa style on the other hand did not appeal to me at all.
 
Luckily, there was another sofa with a style that I loved in the store, and I found out that I could place a custom order  in the color and fabric that I liked. Interestingly enough, it was similar to another sofa style that I had seen at Restoration Hardware except it was cheaper and looked better (in my opinion). Luckily, I was able to cancel the Chesterfield sofa order from Restoration Hardware for a full refund and received my stunning new turquoise sofa from Crate & Barrel six weeks later. Styled with some silk pillows from West Elm, I couldn't be happier with my decision.
