Every week we feature a sustainable brand on our blog. This week's featured brand is Titania Inglis.
Born and raised in Ithaca, New York, Titania Inglis didn't discover her love for design until spending time abroad in Denmark and the Netherlands where she studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven and refined her dark, streamlined aesthetic. She returned to New York where she matriculated at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology
After graduating, she apprenticed under cult New York designers Camilla Staerk, Jean Yu and Threeasfour before founding her eponymous label in 2009, producing visually striking yet easily wearable pieces while paying attention to their social and environmental footprint. The fashion world took note and the line was awarded a 2012 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award and was selected as one of seven finalists for the 2013 CFDA/Lexus Eco-Fashion Challenge.
The line’s androgynous, architectural silhouettes are draped in her Brooklyn atelier and each piece is sewn in limited quantities in New York’s garment district. All the pieces are made of thoughtfully sourced fabrics, including vegetable-tanned leather, Japanese-made organic cotton, and dead stock wool from New York’s garment industry. Inglis also shares her passion for sustainable design in her role as an adjunct professor in the fashion program at the Parsons School of Design.
You can purchase Titania Inglis from various stockists worldwide.
