Every week we feature a sustainable brand on our blog. This week's featured brand is A Peace Treaty.
Founded in 2008, A Peace Treaty believes that things made by human hands, imbued with the story of their maker, are the most beautiful and luxurious in the world. Designed in NY, they work with skilled artisans in Afghanistan, India, Peru, Turkey and other parts of the world to produce their signature handmade scarves as well as capes, caftans and jewelry.
What I love about the brand is how they elevate centuries old techniques from far flung parts of the world into of the moment luxury items that provide a living wage for the artisans. A great example is their partnership with one of the last remaining block printers in Pakistan who they helped train and empower teenagers from the slums with his ancient techniques. His workshop grew from 3 to 16 artisans, and is now fully self-sufficient, thriving with local and international business.
