I'm not a huge fan of designer collaborations with discount brands since the quality rarely tends to be up to scratch. What's the point of wearing Balmain for H&M if it doesn't feel like Balmain? Cheap fabric and shoddy construction are the hallmarks of fast fashion and collaboration or not, there is no escaping the fact that this is the only way fashion can be produced at rock bottom prices.

However, when Target did a collaboration with Neiman Marcus a couple of years ago, they managed to manufacture a collection that actually delivered on the promise of what a designer collaboration is supposed to be - brand name apparel at relatively affordable prices. I say relatively affordable because the Neiman Marcus collaboration was more expensive than previous Target designer collaborations, but I think it was a prudent course of action because the quality was worthy of the Neiman Marcus brand.

I scored several items from this collection including some black leather Marc Jacobs gloves, a totally rad bicycle from Alice and Olivia as well as some dessert plates and this gorgeous sequin top from Tracy Reese. Since it's such a statement piece, I paired it with some simple olive green pants but of course couldn't resist some matching sky high wedges.
